  We did a 17-day South India tour with Padmanaban as driver. “Belly,” as we called him, was a stroke of luck. Not only as a very safe driver, but also in the entire journey. The latter was planned with pre-booked hotels with breakfast and optional sightseeing/activities. He simply made everything we had read and wanted possible. Buying from suit or jewelry, having clothes sewn, being in place x at the best time of the day or light or just going somewhere good European food. He greeted me as a “ma’am” almost daily in the morning with fresh flowers, the car was always meticulously clean, in the cooler always the desired drinks cold and for longer journeys he always kept local snacks ready. We were invited to a wedding with Belly and experienced Ganesh Chaturthi (Ganesha’s birthday) and Onam (Hindu Thanksgiving) intensively. Belly even exchanged money for us at rates we would never have received as tourists.
